Alfonso Batalla de Antonio
Born Madrid (Spain) October 10th 1958
Degree in Law and Economics (Zaragoza University)
Living in working in Bilbao since 1986.
First of all, I must say I am a photographer, I am neither a painter nor a graphic
designer.
I state that contemporary art is built around language. Although it might be easy
to créate with tools like words, paints, brushes as you are not constrained it might
be specialy when using a photographic camera as it deals with reality that is very
stubborn and hard to modify.
Photographers use tools, both from the technical point of view and from the
semiotics. Tactics as framing, suspended action, negative spaces are there, but
metaphors, repetitions, symbols, indexicality are used to construct sentences.
In my case, the idea of transforming these usualy decaying loacations and
transform them into luxury items (a finished Work of Art), would be the best
metaphor.
